Vision
Our vision is to become a premier hub of intellectual discourse that empowers students to transform their voices into instruments of social change and leadership. We envision a campus culture where every student possesses the eloquence to express their unique potential and hone the courage to engage in meaningful dialogue.
Mission
DDS provides a structured platform for debates, declamations, and poetic expression, bridging the gap between academic knowledge and oratorical mastery. By organizing high-impact annual events, we cultivate a vibrant community where students refine their critical thinking, enhance their rhetorical abilities, and build the competitive experience necessary for professional excellence.
Objectives
• To develop students’ public speaking and presentation skills.
• To strengthen critical thinking and persuasive argumentation.
• To build confidence in expressing ideas clearly, coherently, and logically.
• To encourage active participation in debates, declamations, and speech competitions.
• To raise awareness of current social, political, and global issues.
• To cultivate leadership, teamwork, and effective communication skills.
Mandate
The Debate and Declamation Society is mandated to provide a formally structured platform for students to recognize the strength in their own voices, polish natural discourse through varied intellectual interactions, and represent the institution on different competitive stages.
Procedure
• Members are enrolled through an official registration process.
• Regular meetings and practice sessions are conducted on a scheduled basis.
• Debate and declamation topics are assigned in advance for preparation.
• Training sessions and workshops are led by senior members or mentors.
• Events are planned, approved, and carried out under proper supervision.
• Performance is assessed, with constructive feedback provided for improvement.
Action / Activities
• Organizing intra-university debate and declamation competitions.
• Conducting regular weekly or monthly practice sessions.
• Hosting seminars and workshops focused on public speaking and communication skills.
• Participating in inter-university competitions and events.
• Arranging mock debates and speech delivery sessions for skill development.
• Commemorating national and international days through themed speech events.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
The Debates and Declamation Society aims to develop students’ rhetorical confidence by providing regular opportunities for public speaking and effective idea presentation. It helps refine communication skills, including fluency, pronunciation, and the ability to present arguments persuasively.
The society is designed to strengthen critical thinking and reasoning by encouraging students to evaluate multiple perspectives and construct well-organized arguments. It also enhances research skills, as students gather, analyze, and apply relevant information to support their viewpoints.
Through active participation, students develop leadership qualities and learn to work collaboratively, fostering strong teamwork. The society may broaden awareness of important social, political, and global issues by engaging students with diverse and thought-provoking topics.
Additionally, it contributes in improving students’ ability to express ideas clearly, logically, and respectfully in both formal and informal settings.
VISIBILITY
The Debates and Declamation Society (DDS) holds an active and prominent position within NUML by consistently arranging debates, declamation events, and public speaking competitions that attract students from various disciplines.
The society promotes its events regularly through relevant signage (notices, posters, digital media platforms) to ensure that students are well-informed and encouraged to participate.
Ongoing contribution of students in society initiatives helps maintain its visible and dynamic presence across the campus.
